Natalia Alexandrova began her studies in Children’s Musical School No. 1 in Chelyabinsk, Russia, and then learnt at a magnet music school in Leningrad (now St Petersburg). She was a student at the Leningrad State Conservatory (now the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory) with Prof. Anatoly Nikitin.
Having completed her cello studies at the conservatory in 1975, Natalia came back to her hometown and was offered the cello position at the Chelyabinsk Philharmonia. From 1975 to 1992 she was the cellist of the Pianoforte Trio, together with fortepianist Anatoly Khanzhin and violinist Vladislav Goldfeld. The trio garnered numerous prizes in regional chamber music competitions.
A laureate of many regional competitions in her capacity as a soloist, Natalia regularly appears in concerts and music events. She has performed with symphony orchestras of Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Barnaul, Chișinău and Wuppertal. Touring geography of the gifted cellist extends from the Volga River throughout Siberia in Russia, and her performances took Natalia to venues in the Baltics, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, and France.
Natalia has collaborated with such musicians as People's Artist of the Russian Federation Vladimir Khomakov (pipe organ), laureate of the International Competition “Music without Borders” Larisa Timshina (pipe organ), prize-winner of international music competitions Oleg Yanovsky (fortepiano), and Lutz Leskovits (violin).
Natalia’s wide cello repertoire includes Baroque music by Bach, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, and Marcello; Classical era music by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and other composers; Romantic music by Schumann, Schubert, Brahms, Saint-Saëns, and Mendelssohn; and music of Russian composers from different eras, such as Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Glazunov, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. She often plays contemporary musical pieces of Chelyabinsk composers Yuly Galperin, Anatoly Krivoshey, Larisa Dolganova, and Georgy Anokhin.
In 1994, Natalia was awarded the honorary title of Meritorious Artist of the Russian Federation for her exceptional achievements in arts. In 2000, she received the Governor’s prize as the luminary in musical arts of Chelyabinsk Region. Her performances have been recorded for the State Fund of Television and Radio Programs.
Media have noted Natalia for her vibrant tone, and Kölnische Rundschau (Cologne) described the cellist's performance as bright, brilliant, and flawless. Natalia was invited to the Festival of Slavic Culture in Paris in 2000 and the Festival of Contemporary Music in Vienna in 2003. Natalia participated in the Mozart Festival in the Mirabell Palace, Salzburg, every year from 2001 to 2014. As an active chamber musician, Natalia has been the organizer, artistic director and performer at the International Festival Vienna – Chelyabinsk – Salzburg since 2004. In 2006, Natalia was invited to take part in the festival of German music in Saratov. She also was a permanent member of the jury in the annual competition Yuzhnouralsk – Salzburg from 2009 to 2013. In 2012, she released three albums in the Music of the Baroque Era series with organist Larisa Timshina and albums Pearls of Cello Music and Concerto-Elegy with Meritorious Artist of the Russian Federation fortepianist Oleg Yanovsky.
